Color Carnival: Gonolobus

No, it isn't an STD. It's a type of Milkweed flower that inhabits Mexico. I love the intricate, magenta center. Originally called Gonolobus cyclophyllus, it is now known as Matelea cyclophyllus. Like many asclepiads it is pollinated by flies and has the fragrance of carrion. I must need two of them, as this one has never developed a seed pod. Do you have one I could borrow?

That is spectacular! I've never seen or heard of it before. Although I know it's not and dry in south Texas and Mexico, plants like those make up for the hot climate!

See what blogging can do. I have added a new name to my collection of flowers! Very lovely! Sorry, pollination unavailable, I do not own one. Hehehe, I agree with Martha about the STD! Have a great week!

So interesting - haven't seen that plant before but I was happy to 'meet' someone else who knows about the rainbow colored carrots! I heard there are colored potatoes too?!

Never heard of this flower before but, it is lovely.

If you find that second one put me on the list to receive one of the seed pods. I would love to try growing one.

Ah, that's the first time I've seen the flower. If that was STD -- then it's of great color, LOL.

I have seen some similar... that butterflies love. But, I didn't know they smell like dead flesh... thank goodness my sense of smell is so bad.
